Enhancing Portuguese teaching and research, three institutions sign a cooperation agreement
On behalf of their respective institutions, Professor Zhou Qifeng, President of Peking University, Prof. Antonio Novoa, Rector of University of Lisbon, Portugal and Prof. Lei Heong Iok, President of Macao Polytechnic Institute, signed a cooperation agreement between the three on Jan 12, 2012.
The cooperation agreement will deepen cooperation between the three institutions in the area of Portuguese teaching and research and encourage exchange activities. Areas of cooperation include teacher exchanges, the promotion and support of student exchanges, encouraging and assisting study visits by teachers and students, jointly organising conferences and talks, the exchange of publications and the establishment of projects in which the three institutions share a common interest.
Before the signing ceremony, President Zhou Qifeng of Peking University met with the guests from the University of Lisbon and Macao Polytechnic Institute. He expressed his appreciation of President Lei Heong Iok in initiating the cooperation, an act which highlighted the important role of Macao as a platform for such agreements.

理工學院主辦的“從藝(1964-)——李振球畫展”,將於2012年1月19日至1月25日在理工學院展覽聼舉行。鋪展畫家的藝術創作生涯,呈現個人藝術思維和創作風格,表達作者藝術品味和人生態度的百來幅作品,分別為中國畫、年畫、連環畫創作及、寫生等等,堪稱作者一份藝術心情和人生感受的報告。畫展分為“樸實再現”,“結緣民間”,“寄情水墨”三個部份。
“從藝(1964-)——李振球畫展”展覽開幕式將於一月十九日(星期四)下午六點三十分,在理工展覽廳舉行,歡迎諸位蒞臨。
The BSc Computing Programme of MPI Accredited by IET
The BSc Computing Programme of MPI Accredited by IET Macao Polytechnic Institute(MPI), to improve the quality of teaching and degree programs, and with the government encouraging higher education institutions to undertake accreditations, after years of preparation, invited the expert review group of the Institute of Engineering and Technology of UK( IET) to Macao to conduct a four-day accreditation for its program in Computing from 6 to 9 December 2011. The experts of IET conducted a comprehensive review on the teaching documents, student works and papers, teaching facilities, laboratories, research centres, and conducted dialogues with teachers, students, and graduates. IET’s experts found MPI’s faculty quality, teaching plans, social services, hardware environment, and student’s employment situation and their further education satisfactory, and wrote the accreditation report accordingly. IET’s Academic Accreditation Committee officially accredited MPI’s Bachelor of Science Programme in Computing with the highest ranking on December 19, 2011, a significant achievement of Macao’s higher education, as being fully recognized by the international academic community. It was the first time that the BSc Computing Programme of MPI participated in IET’s accreditation. With the highest rank of certification achieved, the Programme ’s teaching quality has reached international standards. It showed that after ten years of efforts, the teaching quality and standard of MPI has been rising, with its many programs getting good reviews from international professional fields of different areas. The successful accreditation is also of great significance to Macao’s higher education in general. The programme has two specialization areas, Enterprise Information Systems and Gaming Technology. As the programme has successfully passed the IET’s academic accreditation, students will have the academic qualifications required by IET’s chartered engineers upon successful graduations, enhancing their career prospects in the future. It will also improve MPI’s international reputation and credibility. President Lei Heong Iok of Macao Polytechnic Institute Selected as an Academician by the Lisbon Academy of Science of Portugal President of Macao Polytechnic Institute, Prof. Lei Heong Iok has been selected as one of the foreign corresponding academicians by the Lisbon Academy of Science of Portugal. The ceremony of conferment, presided by Prof. Arantes e Oliveira, the President of the Academy, was held on Nov 15, 2011, at the Academy. Speaking about the conferment, Prof. Oliveira said that it was meant to affirm Prof. Lei’s outstanding achievement in academic and higher education, and his significant contribution in facilitating the cooperation and exchange between higher education institutes in Macao and Portugal. In response, Prof. Lei expressed that it was not only a recognition of himself personally, but also a recognition of Macao Polytechnic Institute as a whole. The Institute would continue to strengthen the teaching and research work in Portuguese language and culture and to cultivate more talents in the area. He then made the presentation of ‘the Development of Portuguese Teaching in China’ to introduce to those present about the current state of Portuguese teaching in China. Macao Polytechnic Institute has very close links with higher education institutes in Portugal. The collaborative activities include joint bachelor and master’s programmes, exchanges of teachers and students, joint research projects, joint publication of teaching materials, cooperation in seminars, and sharing in library information. MPI is also a director of the executive committee, Federation of the Management Forum of Higher Education in Portuguese Speaking Countries and Territories (Forum da Gestao do Ensino Superior nos Paises e Regioes de Lingua Portuguesa). Besides, it is an alternate member of the Coordination Committee of the Portugal Polytechnic Institutes as well as a member of the Society of Rectors of Portuguese Speaking Universities. Macao Polytechnic Institute Participates in the Management Forum of Higher Education in Portuguese Speaking Countries and Territories Jointly invited by University of Lisbon and University of Coimbra, a group of representatives of MPI, led by the President, Prof. Lei Heong Iok, participated in the The first edition of the Management Forum of Higher Education in Portuguese Speaking Countries and Territories held its opening ceremony at University of Lisbon on Nov 14. The ceremony was officiated by Prof. João Queiró , the State Secretary of Higher Education of Portugal, Prof. Adão do Nascimento ,the State Secretary of Higher Education of Angola, Prof. Arlindo Chulundo, Deputy Prime Minister responsible for education, Mr. Arnaldo Brito, General Director of Higher Education and Innovation Department of the Ministry of Higher Education an Innovation of Cape Verde, Prof. António Sampaio Nóvoa , Chancellor of University of Lisbon and Prof. João Gabriel e Silva, Chancellor of University of Coimbra.
